Dubuffet

This project was also inspired by Dubuffet and particularly his 'Texturologies' series, in which he mixed paint with soil from his garden in Vence, where he was painting. This allowed him to create links between the abstract and figurative paintings and the solid material of the scenes he was painting. My equivalent is to use photographic images as starting points.

At first I thought of this just as a convenient source of images to play with, but I began to realise that it was grounding my work in my own life memories. I personally have taken all these images: so all of them began as parts of my life. I took pixels from them, recombined and nuanced them with other similar signs from my own life.
